Life as a Mum of Four: Chaos, Love, Guilt… and the Moments That Matter Most

Being a mum of four is something I don’t think anyone can truly prepare you for. My children are 6, 4, 1, and just 4 months old, which means life is loud, busy, and beautifully chaotic in ways I never imagined.

I started this blog to share my real experience—the kind you don’t always see. The messy bits, the emotional bits, the exhausting days… but also the love, the laughter, and those little moments that make everything worth it.

My Eldest: My Little Teammate

My 6-year-old son is at that amazing age where his personality is really shining through. He’s football mad—constantly kicking a ball around, talking about matches, dreaming big—and if he’s not doing that, he’s into his video games.

But more than anything, he’s patient. And that’s something I don’t think I appreciate enough.

Being the eldest of four, especially with such a big age gap between him and the baby, isn’t always easy. There are so many times when I have to say, “just give me a minute,” or “I’ll help you after I’ve sorted the baby,” and that minute turns into much longer.

And that’s where the mum guilt really hits.

The Mum Guilt is Real

Trying to juggle a newborn, a 1-year-old, a 4-year-old, and a 6-year-old means someone is always waiting. And more often than not, it’s him.

There are moments where I see it in his eyes—he just wants my full attention. To show me something on his game, to tell me about football, or just to have me sit with him without being interrupted.

And when I can’t always give him that, it hurts.

The guilt creeps in, making me question if I’m doing enough for him. If he feels pushed aside. If he understands how much I’m trying.

But what amazes me is how patient and understanding he is. He helps more than I ever expect him to. He waits (most of the time), and he loves his siblings so much.

It reminds me that even on the days I feel like I’m falling short, something must be going right.

My Second Born: My Little Firecracker

My 4-year-old daughter is, quite simply, a force of nature.

She has the most unique sense of style—think mismatched outfits, bold choices, and an absolute confidence that I honestly admire. What I might see as “that doesn’t quite go,” she wears like she’s walking a runway. And the best part? She owns it.

She’s also the loudest in the house (by far!) and the funniest. Her jokes don’t always make complete sense, but that somehow makes them even better. She has this natural ability to make everyone laugh, even on the most stressful days.

But with that big personality comes big emotions too. She feels everything deeply and isn’t afraid to show it. One minute she’s making us all laugh, the next she’s standing her ground with the determination of someone twice her age.

In the middle of all the chaos, she brings so much life into our home. She reminds me not to take everything so seriously, to laugh more, and to embrace the mess—both literally and figuratively.

The Balancing Act

Having children at such different stages means constantly switching roles.

One minute I’m helping with school things, the next I’m dealing with toddler meltdowns, then feeding the baby, all while trying to keep everything running smoothly.

It’s a lot.

And there’s no perfect balance. Some days one child needs me more than the others, and that’s just the reality of it. I’m learning to accept that I can’t always split myself evenly—and that doesn’t make me a bad mum.

The Moments That Make It Worth It

For every moment of guilt, there are ten moments that remind me why I wouldn’t change this for the world.

Watching my eldest be gentle with the baby. Seeing him try to make his younger siblings laugh. Watching my daughter light up a room just by being herself.

Those are the moments I hold onto.

Because at the end of the day, it’s not about being perfect—it’s about being present where you can, loving them deeply, and showing up every single day.

Real-Life Mum Hack: Keeping Them Busy (and Happy)

One of the biggest challenges I face day-to-day is making sure each child feels seen and entertained—especially when I’m juggling a baby and a toddler at the same time.

That’s where a few good go-to activities and toys make all the difference.

I’ll be sharing some of my favourite Amazon finds that have genuinely helped keep both my eldest and my daughter busy, engaged, and happy—whether it’s creative play, independent activities, or just something that buys me 10 minutes to feed the baby in peace.

These will always be my honest reviews. If something works in a house as busy and chaotic as mine, then it’s definitely worth sharing.

From fun, imaginative toys that match my daughter’s big personality to things that keep my football-loving son entertained, I’ll only ever recommend what we truly love and use.

Because as mums, we don’t need perfect—we just need things that help.

And if I can help make your day even slightly easier, that means everything.

My Go-To as a Busy Mum: Honest Amazon Finds

With four children, getting out to the shops isn’t always realistic—especially with a baby and a toddler in tow. Some days, even the thought of getting everyone dressed and out the door feels like a mission in itself.

That’s why Amazon has become my go-to as a mum.

It’s convenient, reliable, and honestly a bit of a lifesaver. Whether it’s something for the baby, essentials I’ve run out of, or things to keep my children entertained when I need to focus on the younger ones—it makes life that little bit easier.

Everything I’ll be sharing are my honest reviews and recommendations—things we actually use in our home.

Because if there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s this: anything that helps even a tiny bit… is worth sharing.

To Any Other Mum Reading This

If you’re feeling the guilt, the overwhelm, the exhaustion—you’re not alone.

Motherhood isn’t about getting it right all the time. It’s about loving your children through the chaos, even on the days you feel like you’re not doing enough.

This is my journey. Four kids, endless noise, a lot of mess… but even more love.

My Toddler: Busy, Curious, and Full of Personality

My 1-year-old is at that wonderfully busy stage where everything is an adventure. He’s constantly on the move, exploring, climbing, and getting into absolutely everything he shouldn’t.

He’s also currently obsessed with Spider-Man—anything Spider-Man related instantly has his full attention. It’s been such a fun little phase to watch, and it’s helped me find toys and activities that actually keep him engaged for more than a few minutes.

His learning is happening so quickly at this age. Every day he’s picking up something new—whether it’s sounds, words, or figuring out how things work. Mealtimes are a mix of progress and mess (a lot of mess!), but he’s getting more confident with feeding himself, trying new textures, and developing his own little preferences.

It’s chaotic, but it’s also such a special stage to witness.

My Baby: The Fourth and Final Piece of the Puzzle

My 4-month-old has brought a whole new rhythm to our home. As much as I thought I knew what to expect, every baby is different—and this journey has been no exception.

We recently dealt with a bit of skin irritation and chapped skin, which is never nice to see on such a tiny baby. After trying a few things, I found a product on Amazon that really helped soothe and calm his skin.

This is exactly why I love sharing honest recommendations—because when something genuinely works, especially for your baby, you want other mums to know about it too.

Feeding Journey: Doing What Works for Us

One thing I’ve learned as a mum of four is that every feeding journey looks different.

With my baby, I’ve had to mix feed—and that’s something I’ve learned to fully accept without guilt. Between managing four children and everything that comes with it, sometimes you have to do what works best for you and your baby.

Introducing a bottle was a big part of that. I found one that my baby took to really well, which made those busy moments so much easier—especially when I needed an extra pair of hands or just a moment to breathe.

I’ll be sharing the exact bottle I used and my honest thoughts on it, because I know how overwhelming it can be trying to choose the right one.

At the end of the day, fed is best—and finding what works for your family is all that matters.
